Courses of possibly aluminum siding run up the side of a building. Vents peek out to see what’s going on in the alley below. We look back and dare them to break their silence. Even though it’s not where we would expect anyone to see it, it still forms a pleasing pattern.

Siding isn’t fun. The aluminum variety is even the butt of jokes. But siding is useful, be it aluminum or otherwise. It minimizes maintenance. When combined with other architectural elements, it can lend some beauty when seen in the right light. So function might reign supreme, but the form that follows doesn’t have to be boring.
