Washington, DC, doesn’t have many tall buildings. Many are like this one, brick, with several stories, and accessible in a way that skyscrapers aren’t. This building is in a quiet part of the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Because most buildings aren’t very tall, the sun can get quite low before buildings start blocking it.
Blue skies aren’t always the photographer’s friend because they make for a boring background, but when paired with shades of yellow, they provide a nice color contrast. But in this case, the blue sky provides a bold setting for the building with one side in sunlight and the other in shadow. Bright yellow, a blue-tinged yellow shadow, and solid blue.
