A graffiti face barrels out of the wall in Willemstad, Curaçao.

Sometimes form follows function, and sometimes art follows form. In this case, the graffiti face takes advantage of the window in the door for its mouth. It’s shouting at whomever might be walking near Fort Amsterdam in Willemstad, Curaçao. Except for the sudden outburst of energy here, the area is quite quiet. It’s out of the way. Like a side street. But right next to the seat of government.

Willemstad is one of the more bustling towns in the Caribbean. The city center is a World Heritage Site, so it retains its feel of an older time. The buildings are colorful and built close together. There are probably a dozen museums. All of them are worth visiting, but most of them seem pretty staid. Perhaps none of them capture the spirit of this face.
