Sun and shadow fall on the stairs up an alley in Old San Juan.

Stairs climb up to another street in Old San Juan. The old city sits on a hill. These and steep climbs combine with narrow streets to make for some good, scenic exercise. Even in winter, Puerto Rico can be warm and sunny. So if you go walking around the city, be sure to take a cap and a bottle of water.

The city is colorful. Different buildings have different color schemes, even when next to each other. On the other hand, some buildings are coordinated. So the buildings on either side look similar, while the building at the top of the climb is almost like the sky.
