Rocks sitting alone on a lawn at the Butchart Gardens.

They look out of place, but they aren’t. The set of three rocks stand to the side on a green lawn. Behind them stands a hedge framing them in green. Perhaps they got lost, or frozen in time.

This is just one part of Butchart Gardens, a sprawling series of formal gardens and displays. While you can walk the entire gardens in an hour, it’s worth taking your time and going through it a number of times. It’s best to arrive early, before the crowds are too large. You’ll find bears, panthers, owls, and other animals among the trees, but that’s a topic for another time.
